The city attracts a considerable number of foreign tourists and thousands of scuba divers from around the world, particularly Europeans, because of the easy ferry access from Cebu City, flights from Cebu and Manila on a daily basis, the availability of beach resorts and dive sites, and the attraction of dolphin and whale watching in nearby Bais City, and now in Oslob along with world famous Apo Island for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Dumaguete is the main starting point to go out to all the other areas for scuba diving, Dauin, Apo Island, Malatapay, Siaton, the areas are great for scuba diving or snorkeling and many resorts cater to families and groups.
Dumaguete is known as “The City of Gentle People.” It’s easy to see why – this is a serene university town filled with genteel locals, and its atmosphere is conducive to artistic and scholarly pursuits.
